Summer Camp - SSA Add-Ons


Camper Lunches:

Cost is per week, per child.
Lunch for the week ($67.50) OR per day ($13.50) will be also available for purchase at check-in each morning (credit card only).
Menu selection will be made each day at check-in.

Reusable Water Bottle:
Cost is for one bottle.
Your bottle will available on Monday morning of camp at check-in. It will be yours to take home and bring back for the rest of your camp week.
Bottles are also available for purchase in person at check-in each morning (Credit card only).

Behind-the-Scenes Tour: Scales and Shells

Come shell-ebrate the warmer weather with our reptile friends! First, feed the western pond turtles, California's only native turtle species. Then meet the largest reptile in North America - the alligator! Finish by feeding the spurred tortoises near the giraffe yard.

  • No strollers allowed on the tour.

  • Arrive time: Please arrive on time, as the tour will begin promptly at 10:45am. Late arrivals may not be able to join the tour. 
  • Animal participation is not guaranteed. Animals have free choice to participate or not participate in any encounter. The animals also have free choice to leave the encounter at anytime.
  • Tour may be canceled in the case of inclement weather.

  • For safety reasons, closed-toed shoes are mandatory for this tour. If you do not wear closed-toed shoes, you will not be allowed to participate in the tour.

  • Illness: If you are ill, experiencing symptoms of COVID or have been exposed to someone with COVID in the last two weeks, we ask that you reschedule your tour. This is for the safety of our animals.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour: Okapi

On this tour you will enter keeper only areas to have opportunities to interact with the okapi, such as hand-feeding them a morning snack. Afterwards, you’ll visit the okapi barn to learn about their care. A rare experience with a rare animal!

  • $200 per person zoo members
  • $221 per person non-members

  • Participants may be asked to wear a face mask during the tour. The mask must be worn properly over your nose and mouth. A mask will be provided by your guide if needed. This is for the health and safety of our okapis.

The Okapi Tour is ADA-accessible. However, the tour will include some uneven terrain. Please contact us with any specific questions and we will be happy to help as we can. 

 

 

Behind-the-Scenes Tour: Meerkats

Go behind-the-Scenes and see the back area of the meerkats exhibit and learn how we take care of them. You will get to put together a meerkat enrichment snack that will stimulate their natural foraging and problem-solving skills. You will then toss your creation over to the meerkats and watch in awe as they dive in with their clever little paws. With plenty of photo ops and fascinating meerkat facts along the way, this experience is sure to be packed with meerkat magic and memories you won’t want to miss!

  • All participants are required to wear a 3-layered face mask that is provided by the zoo. The mask must be worn properly over your nose and mouth. Gloves will be provided by your tour guide when needed.

The Sacramento Zoo uses Plan-Ahead Pricing, giving you the opportunity to plan a zoo visit that matches your budget and schedule. Ticket prices may increase daily. The price will never be lower for a particular day than is currently listed. Buy early to save!

Sac Zoo Academy units include fun and educational videos filmed at the Sacramento Zoo, with Sacramento Zoo animals. The videos and worksheets facilitate your student’s learning, encourage exploration of scientific concepts, and offer space to explain and elaborate on those ideas. All virtual curriculum kits include:

Behind-the-Scenes Tour: Giraffe and Zebra Journey

This tour will give you the opportunity to meet and feed our giraffes and zebras.

Field Trip or Group Reservation Request

If you are interested in booking a field trip, Title 1 field trip, or group visit outside of the available dates and times, contact the Reservation Specialist to inquire.

 

After your submission, you will receive an email confirming your reservation and an acknowledgment email with a headcount form attached and information regarding your check-in process for the day of. 

Please print and bring that email with you on the day of your visit, as you will use this to record your final head count upon your arrival.

Zoomobile Booking Program

This is the payment platform for the Sacramento Zoo's Zoomobile presentations.

  • The Sacramento Zoo will accommodate up to three presentations per day, per location. 
  • Under quantity below, type in the number of presentations you are purchasing for your location.
  • Follow the prompts to complete your payment.
  • Upon completion of payment, you will receive an auto-generated email from the booking system, and you will also receive an email from zoo staff with more information regarding your visit.

After Care*:
After Care is available from 4 pm to 5 pm.
Cost is per week, per child.
Full week ($75) and single days ($15) can also be purchased during drop-off each morning (credit card only). 
If you have 2 campers you wish to purchase after care for, enter the quantity "2" below. 
If you pick up your child after 5 pm, you will be charged $1 per minute. Payment will be collected at the time of pick up (credit card only).
*After Care is only available for those enrolled in the 1st through 8th grade camps

Extra Camper T-shirt:
Cost is for one shirt.
Your shirt(s) will be available on Monday morning of camp at check-in. 
The shirt size will match the size requested in your summer camp class registration.
If you wish to order 2 shirts for the same camper, enter the same information for both "Registrant 1" and "Registrant 2". 
Shirts are also available for purchase in person at check-in each morning (Credit card only).

Scout Safari Overnight

Thank you for your interest in our Scout Overnight Safari! These dates are reserved for Scouts wanting to enjoy an overnight safari with their fellow Troop/Pack.

Please check the dates carefully to choose the appropriate date for your Scouts.

Girl Scout dates:

  • Friday, September 5th - Saturday, September 6th
  • Friday, October 3rd - Saturday, October 4th

Scouts BSA dates:

  • Friday, June 20th - Saturday, June 21st
  • Saturday, September 20th - Sunday, September 21st

What to expect for your Overnight Safari:

  • Scout Safari Overnights are for ages 5 years and older.
  • All attendees under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a paid adult.
  • There must be at least one adult per six children.
  • Please eat dinner before you arrive. There is no dinner served, and breakfast is a grab and go light snack. Guests are allowed to bring additional light snacks if needed, but there are no mealtimes set aside and no refrigeration available.
  • The sleeping area is on our Reptile House and Summer Camp lawns. Guests are required to provide their own tents or ground covering and a sleeping bag.
  • *Cars will be parked outside zoo grounds, at the Fairytale Town parking lot. You will receive directions a week prior to your scheduled overnight.
  • A partial refund may be available if you need to cancel, fill out the cancellation form.
  • If your preferred date is full, please add your name to the wait list.
  • The Sacramento Zoo adheres to CDPH and Sacramento County Public Health policies in regards to COVID-19 precautions. The most up-to-date COVID-19 policies for Overnight Safaris will be communicated to registered guests prior to your stay.

Wine on the Wild Side

Join us for a brand-new wild event! Wine on the Wild Side will be an unforgettable pairing of the elegance of fine wines with the wild beauty of the Sacramento Zoo’s animals. Guests will sample a selection of Clarksburg-area wines curated by Old Sugar Mill wineries, a free photo booth to capture the memories, and live music by Clean Slate.

A selection of delicious food will be available for separate purchase at the event, as well as coffee options from Atlas Craft Coffee.

Don’t miss this unique, adult-only evening at the Sac Zoo (we will be checking IDs – no one under age 21 will be admitted). Tickets are limited, but the fun won’t be!

Behind-the-Scenes Tour: Reptile House

This tour will take you inside the keeper-only area of the Reptile House where you'll learn about caring for amphibians and retiles, handling venomous animals, and using a snake-moving tool. Finish with a meet and greet with a keeper and reptile encounter.

If you are part of a Scout troop or pack, please sign-up for our Scout Overnight Safaris HERE.

Scout Days

Scout Days Reservation Information:

  • Reservations must be received 7 days prior to the program date.
  • There is a 200 person capacity for this program (including adults).
  • 1 adult per 6 scouts, minimum.

Release of Liability
In consideration of being permitted to participate in the Sacramento Zoological Societies program, I agree to assume all risks connected therewith. I agree to release and discharge in advance the City of Sacramento and the Sacramento Zoological Society their officers, employees, and agents from any and all liability for personal injury, death and/or property damage.

Cancellation Policy
There are no refunds for cancellations, unless Sacramento Zoo cancels the program. This includes "no shows", rain or shine.

Happy Hour

Get HAPPY at the Sacramento Zoo at one, two, or all three of our 21+ Happy Hour events!

Dance and groove to a fun mix of live music from local favorites (May 29 - Cover Me Badd, June 12 - Steppin' Out, June 13 - Rod Stinson Band). Get the group together, dance the night away, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the zoo at night. A variety of tasty "pub food” and your choice of drinks including wine, beer, cocktails in a can, and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for separate purchase the night of the event.

You MUST also submit a Field Trip or Group Reservation request to visit the zoo for the same date as this program.

Sunset Safari

  • Sunset Safaris are for ages 5 years and older.
  • All attendees under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a paid adult.

  • Please eat dinner before you arrive. There is no dinner served, and zoo food service will be closed at that time. Guests are allowed to bring light snacks if needed, but there are no mealtimes set aside and no refrigeration available.

Zoomobile Request Form

Reserving a date in this program does not book your program:

  • Staff will receive your request within three business days and assess whether or not they can accommodate this program.
  • If yes, they will contact the registrant directly with a link to pay for the program. The program is not booked until payment has been received.

ZooMobile program details:

  • We will do up to three back-to-back programs at the same school.
  • We are able to accommodate a maximum number of 35 students per program.
  • The program is offered October through May, Monday - Friday.
  • The ZooMobile visits schools, community centers or libraries that are within an hour’s drive of the zoo; we cannot take the ZooMobile to a private home.
    • If you do not see your zip code during the reservation process, you are out of our driving range and cannot book a ZooMobile.
    • If you feel that your zip code is missing in error and that you are within 55 miles/1 hour's drive from the zoo, please contact the Education Department at the Sacramento Zoo to rectify the issue.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour: Inside the Outback

This tour takes you into a special meet and greet area in the Kangaroo exhibit. This exclusive view allows you to get a closer look at the animals and makes you feel like you are part of the Kangaroo mob! There will be opportunities to give a snack to any animal interested in some morning tucker (food)

Age Restrictions:

  • For ages 7 and older, 1:2 parent child ratio.
  • All attendees under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a paid adult. There must be at least one adult per two children.
  • Children younger than 1 year may join as long as they are secured in a wrap or carrier on an adult; however, they will not be able to participate in the tour activities.
  • Strollers are discouraged. 

Tour Information:

  • Duration: Approximately 30 minutes.
  • Capacity: up to 6 participants. If your group exceeds 6, please call 916-808-8441 to get in contact with a tour specialist who can help accommodate your group. 
  • Arrival time: Please arrive on time, as the tour will begin promptly at 10:00am. Late arrivals may not be able to join the tour. 
  • Animal participation is not guaranteed. Animals have free choice to participate or not participate in any encounter. The animals also have free choice to leave the encounter at any time. 
  • Tour may be canceled in the case of inclement weather.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour: Animal Enrichment

Learn what enrichment is, why it's essential to animal welfare, and explore different types. Help with a training session, create enrichment items for animals, and observe them interact with your creations. 

  • Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 1:30pm; Selected Fridays and Saturdays at 2:45pm
  • $75 per person zoo member
  • $96 per person non-member

Learn fascinating cheetah facts, visit keeper-only areas to see how we care for them, make meatball snacks, and watch the cheetahs being fed and trained.
